The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced the 2017 UCI MTB Eliminator World Cup calendar today in Aigle, Switzerland and brings new races to the menu. The UCI World Cup series hosted by City Mountainbike features 8 events and welcomes the cross-country eliminator (XCE) in 7 countries, of which 3 will be held outside of Europe.
We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting the UCI MTB Eliminator World Cup series for 2017. This long-term deal brings us to the highest level of the Cross Country Eliminator (XCE) racing scene and will become a true asset to those who are aiming for points or increase their individual UCI ranking.
The series are a complete package; it brings the very best of world’s top athletes together on an international racing scene. We brought some new twists to City Mountainbike with amazing new venues that are beloved by both mountain bikers and bike enthusiasts.
Each of these cities have their own charm; Beirut (Lebanon) will see mountain bikers take on the horse-racing Hippodrome, while the event in Bangkok (Thailand) will draw attention to several passengers on Central World Plaza, situated near one of the largest shopping complex in the world.
The World Cup series will also include new rounds in Winterberg (Germany) and Volterra (Italy). Belgian cities – Antwerp and Waregem – formerly hosted the Belgian XCE Nationals will remain on the calendar, as well as last year’s Giro d’Italia side event in Apeldoorn (The Netherlands). The series also takes us to Columbus, Georgia (USA), where the riders face beautiful surroundings next to the Chattahoochee, the longest urban rafting river. Moreover, we have an exciting bunch of races ahead of us!
City Mountainbike will still host the free kids race and citizens race, open to mountain bikers of all ages. Even companies get their chance to battle for the title. We all share the same passion and you can be part of it!
“Hosting the World Cup series is a huge step forward for the global mountainbike community. It is the result of years of support from dedicated sponsors. We realized we could make something great and do it on a different way,” says City Mountainbike organizing committee “This will attract mountain bike fans from across the globe who want to see their favourite mountain bikers compete in our series.”
